Glencoe German Crest
The crest of the Glencoe German classes and German club consists of three elements: an eagle,
a cross, and the Glencoe Tide Guy.
The eagle is the national symbol of Germany and the United
States of America. The eagle was chosen to represent the influence that German-Americans have had in the
United States. Millions of Germans have immigrated to the United States over many decades and have
made valuable financial, scientific, and cultural contributions to the U.S. The eagle is also the mascot of the Evergreen
Middle School, whose students will eventually attend Glencoe High School. Evergreen students have the opportunity to
participate in Glencoe's German Club activities.
This particular cross was chosen because of its Germanic style. The four parts of the cross represent the
four parts of language learning: writing, speaking, listening, and reading. I also like the way it appears to be
like agrowing tree, signifying that when you learn a language or learn in general, you will grow intellectually and as a
person.
The Tide Guy in the base of the cross is Glencoe High School's mascot.
The colors of the crest are red, white, and black, which are Glencoe's school colors.
